SortProject Title

Extreme Weather and Adaptation Strategies

Project Description

The accelerating impacts of extreme weather events, exacerbated by climate change, demand a deeper understanding of their consequences and the effectiveness of current adaptation measures. This project seeks to analyze the influence of extreme weather on urban systems, regional disparities in impacts, the effectiveness of early warning systems and adaptation measures, and the economic trade-offs of proposed interventions.

With a focus on Africa, a region particularly vulnerable to the increasing intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, this research aims to uncover local potential for mitigating disaster impacts and enhancing resilience to extreme weather events. By examining the socio-economic, infrastructural, and governance factors unique to African contexts, the project will identify region-specific strategies to reduce vulnerabilities, accelerate recovery, and build long-term climate resilience.

Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the role of community-based initiatives, traditional knowledge, and local governance in disaster risk reduction. The findings will provide actionable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and stakeholders to design and implement effective, locally adapted solutions, fostering sustainable development in the face of climate uncertainty.
