Bio: Dr. Xinyue Ye is an Associate Professor of Stellar Faculty Provost Target Hire at Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (College of Architecture) and Department of Geography (College of Geosciences) at Texas A&M University, where he directs Urban Data Science Lab. His research focuses on spatial econometrics and urban informatics. He was the recipient of annual faculty research awards from both computer science (New Jersey Institute of Technology) and geography (Kent State University). His work has been funded by NSF, NIJ, DOC, and DOE. He was the President of CPGIS (2016-17). He is the Founding Co-Editor-in-Chief of Computational Urban Science, an open access Springer Journal.
Abstract: Advancements in location-aware technology, information and communication technology, and mobile technology during the past two decades have transformed the focus and need of built environment research from mostly static assessments to multi-scalar spatial, temporal, and dynamic relationships which integrate human behaviors across various environments (natural, built, and virtual). Communities can reduce vulnerability while increasing social and physical resilience through research-driven, evidence-based planning, design, and policy development. However, silos within the design, social, and engineering sciences as well as yawning gaps between research and practice have made sustainable and equitable resilient development difficult. This talk will give an overview of computational urban science and provide some case studies.
