Joint Symposium and KNIME Workshop on GeoAI for Remote Sensing in Morocco

May 28-29 marked a significant milestone for the Spatial Data Lab with the successful completion of the 1st joint symposium organized by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) and the International Society for Digital Earth Young Scientist Innovation Network (ISDE-YSIN) at Chouaib Doukkali University, El Jadida, Morocco.

Dr. Siqin Wang, our CGA visiting fellow and core member of the SDL project, attended the event in person. The SDL project lead, Lingbo Liu, and member Tian Tian from the Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University delivered a successful training workshop on repeatable workflows. They highlighted the applications of KNIME workflows and Google Earth Engine’s no-code cloud platform for remote sensing data visualization and GeoAI.

The event featured a vibrant training session that attracted over 50 onsite students and 20 online participants. We appreciate Dr. Yassine Tounsi's superb organization and coordination. This event marks the beginning of a promising international collaboration between the IEEE GRSS Morocco Chapter and the Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University.

With joint efforts, we look forward to extending the series of events, exchanges, and collaborations among our multiple organizations to other African countries and regional nations more broadly. We definitely plan to return to the Sahara in the near future!
