 **Abstract:**

 China has experienced rapid urbanization within recent years. However, it has been a challenge how to define urban and interpret urban development in China. This webinar will discuss available statistics, census data, and GIS data for the spatial study of urban development in China, including the following topics: (1) data sources, collection, category, definition, and interpretation; (2) alternative data sources; (3) comparison of the difference between the US and China data; (4) discussions of pros and cons; (5) workflow-based data analysis case studies based on published papers.
